EPDM O-Rings
Ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) O-Rings, offers good low temperature flexibility and good temperature resistance. They have high tensile strength, high tear and abrasion resistance and excellent resistance to ozone, water and oxidation. They can withstand low temperature to -55°C [-67°F] and high temperatures to +125°C [+257°F]. Because EPDM is a fully saturated compound, no double bonding between atoms, it is highly resistant to ozone attack. Ethylene Propylene O-rings are often referred to as EP, EPR, EPT, EPM, and most commonly EPDM O Rings.
These o rings are well suited for applications that will be exposed to sunlight and weathering. EPDM O Rings and seals are commonly used as window and door seals. They are recommended for use in applications that seal water commonly found in faucets and water filters. These o-rings are also used in automotive brake applications because of their resistance the DOT 3, DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 glycol based brake fluid.
EPDM O-Rings are available with a sulfur cure or peroxide cure. O Rings with a sulfur cure offer good physical properties and are more cost effective than O Rings with peroxide cure. Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer O-Rings with peroxide cure are stronger and have better chemical resistance such as resistance to attack from chloramine treated municipal water.
EPDM O-Rings are ideal for use in applications used to seal water because of its excellent resistance to water and steam. Many companies that make product for the plumbing industry such as toilet valve, faucet and shower head manufacturers are moving toward EPDM seals with peroxide cure due to their resistance to chloramine attack.
Satori Seal supplies large quantities of O Rings for many industries and applications. With over 48 years of experience in providing both standard and custom EPDM O-rings, Satori Seal can provide you with the best solution for your business. Contact our engineering or sales team for answers to your EPDM / EPM O-ring questions.
There are many factors to consider when designing an Ethylene Propylene seal for your application: dimensions, temperature range, fluid contact, dynamic or static seal to name a few. From there you can specify other criteria or work with one of our sales team to help select the ideal O-ring.
