Silicone seals can withstand temperature as low as -65°C [-85°F] to over +232°C [+450°F] and are thermally stable over a wide temperature range which their physical properties stay consistent. Silicone (not to be confused with the chemical element Silicon) offers a high degree of resistance to ozone, heat, UV light, general weathering, ozone and compression set. However, Silicone is a weak material, typically having low tensile strength, low tear resistance, and low abrasion resistance and therefore Silicone is recommended only for static sealing applications.
